o2 Mobile Phone Insurance

Many people feel that mobile phone insurance is something that they do not need to worry about, but there are a number of situations when it can be extremely useful. This is true of O2 mobile phone insurance, which provides peace of mind to customers who choose to take it out, as it means that they will not need to replace their phone personally in the event of it being lost, damaged or stolen. Most people though think that they are too careful to need it – but what are some of the situations whereby they could have to call on the insurance policy, even if they are one of the most careful people in the world?

The most obvious time in which someone would need to claim for O2 mobile phone insurance through no fault of their own is when it is stolen. Unfortunately, as phones have become more and more advanced, the desire to have them has increased as well – therefore meaning that they are a prime target for thieves throughout the world. Whether they are stolen in a house burglary, through a street robbery or pickpocketed from an unsuspecting person, the result is the same – if you have no insurance, you will have to pay for the replacement out of your own pocket. Having mobile phone insurance though will mean that you will have a new phone with you in just a couple of days, all for just a small excess fee from around £25.

Other than theft, accidentally damaging your phone is also covered by most O2 mobile phone insurance, and even the most careful person in the world will occasionally drop a phone or damage it in some other way. This is especially true with the advent of smartphones – such as the iPhone and the BlackBerry – which have brittle screens and are therefore less likely to survive being knocked around. The average price for getting the screen of an iPhone fixed is about £100, so it is clear to see that taking out insurance is well worth it even for this eventuality. Should the internal workings of the phone become damaged – such as through water damage – then the price to repair it will be even higher, therefore meaning that mobile phone insurance from o2 is even more useful.

For those who are careful, loss of a mobile phone is probably the least likely occurrence of the three, but it does still happen. A night out in a bar that gets slightly boozy or the phone falling out of a pocket on a crowded tube train can both happen and unfortunately do happen on a regular basis. With O2 mobile phone insurance these eventualities are both covered – in fact, it doesn’t matter how you lose your phone, as you will still be able to make a claim, but only if you have insurance in the first place.

Making a claim with O2 is very easy, as it simply involves ringing their customer services team with 24 hours of the incident happening. The only exception to this is if the phone has been stolen – in this case you will have to report the incident to the police before informing the O2 mobile phone insurance team of the theft. Once the claim has been accepted, 80% of people report that they have received their new handset within 24 hours, with the rest getting a new phone within 48 hours. Even if it is the latter time period, clearly this is far more preferable than paying out for a whole new handset out of your own pocket!

For those who have been with O2 for a while, using O2 mobile phone insurance also contributes towards your O2 Rewards tally, which gives bonuses to people who reach a certain amount of points with them. These bonuses include early mobile phone upgrades, free broadband for six months and free tickets to events, such as rock concerts. Although this won’t affect your decision regarding whether to take out the O2 mobile phone insurance policy, it is a nice little perk once you have it.

It is always worth comparing mobile phone insurance to evaluate premiums, this will help you decide if you are currently paying too much for your premium at present.
