Vodafone Mobile Phone Insurance

Whether you are purchasing a new handset, or using one on a regular basis, Vodafone mobile phone insurance must be a consideration for all Vodafone pay monthly customers.

It can be incredibly annoying to lose your phone, especially with today’s extremely mobile-oriented world.  Indeed, with modern phones now providing similar features to many computers, replacing lost or stolen handsets and fixing problems can prove costly.  Insurance can help to provide additional cover and piece of mind on your handset when the unforeseen occurs.

Vodafone provide ‘Cover Me’ brand insurance, which covers your handset at all times within the UK.  In addition, this will also cover your phone for 30 consecutive days should you take it out of the country.

Cover is available to all UK pay monthly or business customers, but is not available to pay as you go mobile users.  If you are aged 18 years of age or older you are eligible to apply for this insurance at any stage, should you be a new or existing Vodafone customer, regardless of whether your handset is new or one you have had for a while.

The cover provided applies to loss of or damage to your handset within Vodafone’s policies.  It also provides a repair service (with an pre-set excess amount) up to a total value of £200, or replacement with a handset of similar value at Vodafone’s discretion.  The excess provided will vary dependant on the band of your mobile.  Band One and Band Two mobiles have a £15 and £25 excess respectively, whereas Band Three and Four handsets will have an excess of £50.

As with any form of insurance it is important to understand what is not covered by this policy.  Vodafone mobile phone insurance does not cover within the following circumstances:

-         Claims made within 30 days of a previous successful claim.  Vodafone will only be eligible to pay out for one successful claim per calender month.

-         Loss or theft due to neglegence by the owner.  This can include loss or theft from an unlocked vehicle or premises, from leaving a handest on any exterior part of a vehicle (e.g. the roof, bonnet etc.), or leaving the handset in a location well-known to be an opportune area for theft.

-         Damage to handset paintwork, external or internal.

-         External viruses contracted by your handset that cause corruption of data.

-         Damage or loss caused by unique circumstances.  This includes that which is caused by war or invasion, rebellion, revolution, seizure or destruction by the government, ionising radiation or nuclear contamination and terrorismor terrorist acts.

In addition, there are a number of conditions set forth by Vodafone that customers and policy users are expected to adhere to.  Failure to comply to these conditions can also invalidate the insurance policy, so it is important to be aware of what these entail.  These conditions include:

-         The undertaking of all reasonable precautions against theft, loss or damage.  This is similar to some of the previously mentioned points on negligence and not leaving the handset in a compromising position.

-         That at the time of loss or damage, the mobile is connected to the Vodafone network and the appropriate Vodafone SIM is still within it.

-         That all information given to Vodafone regarding the circumstances of the loss or damage is truthful. Should any information be found to be fraudulent, this can validate the cover provided and ultimately result in the cancellation of your policy.

-         That the customer informs Vodafone of any change of handset, or personal details including changes of address.  In addition, the cover is only valid if you are a permanent UK resident.

To make a claim on an existing policy, Vodafone advise all personal and business customers to contact their insurance team on 0333 304 3346, or from abroad on +44 7836 191 191.  All claims should be made within seven days of the loss or damage occurring.  In cases of malicious damage or theft, these should be reported to the police within 48 hours where possible, and a crime reference number obtained.  Failure to do this can result in delays to the processing a claim, or rendering a claim invalid.

All customers are within their rights to cancel their existing policy within 14 days of commencing it or by giving the insurer 30 days notice of cancellation.  Cancellations outside this criteria may result in additional charges.
